Making Your Home Eco-Friendly
One of today’s hottest topics is the environment. Activists have been warning us for years now that we need to start changing our living habits to help preserve our future life on Earth. There are many simple and inexpensive things you can do to make your home eco-friendly and help the cause to save the environment.
-Switch to fluorescent light bulbs. These bulbs will save about $30 over their lifetime and they pay for themselves in less than six months.
-Buy local fruits and vegetables. Just by buying from a local farmer you’ll save on the packaging needed to carry the produce home as well as the fossil fuels used in the transportation to get there.
-Change your thermostat. To save $100 or more on your yearly energy bill, keep your temperature at 78 degrees in the summer and around 62 degrees in the winter.
-Drive your vehicle less. Try walking, taking public transportation, car pooling, etc.
-Do your laundry only when it’s a full load. Avoid washing just a few items. When you have enough clothes to do a full load you’ll save gallons of wasted water each week. Try to use cold water more often than hot as well.
-Let your lawn grow. An extra inch or two will save on water and fuel for the lawn mower.
You can make a difference by just doing the smallest things and making them a part of your daily life and routine. Help protect our environment by getting started today.
